The fuel filter protects your engine by filtering out any contaminants that get trapped in the fuel tank. Before fuel is sprayed into the combustion chamber, it passes through the filter. Eventually, though, the fuel filter becomes dirty (clogged) and must be replaced. If you don't replace it, you can experienced decreased performance and gas mileage.

Open the bonnet and locate the fuel filter. It should be located on the firewall closest to the passenger compartment.

Put the catch pan under the fuel filter to catch any fuel that spills while you are changing the filter.

Locate the fuel rail on the Jazz. The Schrader valve is on the fuel rail. Release the fuel pressure with the tip of a screwdriver. You can also pull the fuse for the fuel filter (located under the dash) inside the vehicle. If you are pulling the fuse, turn the ignition key to the "on" position. Start the vehicle and let it idle until it stalls. This will relieve fuel pressure from the system.

Use pliers to remove the retaining clips from the hoses holding the fuel filter in place.

Detach the hoses from the fuel filter and slide the filter out of the mounting bracket. Make sure any dripping fuel is being caught by the catch pan.

Insert the new fuel filter in the mounting bracket and attach the hoses. Attach the retaining clips over the hoses so that they stay firmly in place.

Replace the fuel filter fuse (if you removed it).

Start the vehicle and check to make sure the fuel system pressurises. You will know that the system is operating properly if the vehicle starts and runs for more than a few seconds.

Visually inspect the engine bay to ensure that the hoses are being held in place and that no fuel is leaking while the vehicle is running (pumping fuel).

WARNING

Make sure you relieve pressure from the fuel system before detaching the hoses holding the fuel filter in place.
