How Can I Waterproof a Mesh Top for a Gazebo?

Updated April 17, 2017

You are in the final stages of completing your beautiful gazebo, a project into which you have poured hours of sweat, time and labour. You are now ready to enjoy a little fun in the sun, with just one minor detail to complete -- waterproofing your mesh top before installing it on your gazebo. Water will roll off waterproofed mesh fabric. Waterproofing will also preserve the fabric's look and life. You can waterproof your mesh top quickly and easily.

Visit your local hardware store to purchase a couple of cans of water repellent finishing for patios and awnings.

Locate a clear area in your backyard to set up temporarily.

Remove the mesh top from its packaging. Unfold the mesh top, laying it out so it is easily accessible.

Shake the can of water repellent finishing and proceed to coat (spray) each side of the mesh thoroughly with an even shine.

Allow three hours for the mesh to dry, then apply a second coat.

Tip

A 473ml. can of water repellent finishing covers approximately 80 square feet.
