How to Make Homemade Bean Bags

Updated February 21, 2017

Bean bags can be used to play outdoor games, math games, or even just to toss back and forth for fun. Although you can purchase premade bean bags at a store, you can create customised bean bags out of any material you want, instead. Construct homemade bean bags out of fleece, felt, vinyl or any other type of fabric you like, and fill with different types of beans or lentils.

Cut out two 5-inch squares of the fabric of your choosing.

Place the squares together with the pattern, if there is one, facing inward.

Thread a needle, and knot the end.

Sew around the edges of the squares using a chain stitch, leaving around 2 inches not sewn.

Knot the thread and cut off the excess.

Turn the squares inside out. This will create a bag with a hole.

Fill the inside of the bag with dried beans, dried lentils or dried rice.

Turn in the edges of the 2-inch hole.

Thread the needle again and knot the end.

Sew the hole closed using a chain stitch.

Knot the thread and cut of the excess. You can now play with the finished bean bag.
