Create your own custom-sized acrylic display box to display your precious items. You can have your local craft store cut the acrylic to the size you desire. An acrylic display box will protect your items from dust and will keep people from touching them, which is important because the oil from hands can destroy fragile objects over time. Acrylic is the perfect medium for a display box because it is completely see-through and it won't shatter.

Instructions

  1. 1

Measure the object or objects you wish to display and decide what dimensions you would like your display box to be. For example, create a box that is 10 inches by 10 inches by 10 inches with an open bottom, so you can put the box over top of your display items and display them on a flat surface.

  2. 2

Remove the protective plastic from the acrylic pieces.

  3. 3

Place one of the 10-inch by 9 ¾-inch pieces flat on a table top. Take one of the 9 ½-inch by 9 ¾-inch pieces and place the 9 ¾-inch side at a 90-degree angle to the 9 ¾-inch side of the acrylic piece that is flat on the table.

  4. 4

Apply a thin layer of glue to the inside seam of the two pieces using the pointed applicator. The glue will seep in between the two pieces. Hold in place for 20 minutes.

  5. 5

Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the second 9 ½-inch by 9 ¾-inch piece on the other 9 ¾-inch side of the acrylic piece that is flat on the table top.

  6. 6

Place the second 10-inch by 9 ¾-inch acrylic piece flat on the table. Lift up the partially-made 3-sided box and place the open side on top of the piece that is flat on the table top. Glue the two seams together and hold in place for 20 minutes.

  7. 7

Place the 10-inch by 10-inch acrylic piece flat on the table top. Set one open end of the box on top of the square and glue all four seams. Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Tips and warnings

  • Clean the box when you are finished with an acrylic cleaner and paper towels.
