Marble is a porous material that can absorb stains and germs quite easily. Mopping with a traditional mop can lift the surface stain and rid the spot of bacteria, however, there is still a layer of grime deep beneath the surface. To lift away the germs that could later cause mould or discolour your marble floor, a steam cleaner is a chemical-free, very effective tool for the job.

  1. 1

Remove chairs, tables and other items from the floor. To achieve the cleanest floor, you should have the floor free of debris prior to steaming.

  2. 2

Sweep the floor thoroughly from corner to corner. Collect the dirt into a pile, then sweep the pile into the dustpan. Dump the dirt in the garbage, and set aside the broom.

  3. 3

Pour water into the canister of the steam mop with the included pitcher. Most cleaners will come with their own pitcher, yet if you do not have one or it has been lost, simply use a cup and funnel to pour water into the canister opening. Fill the water to the fill line indicated on the outside of the canister.

  4. 4

Attach the microfiber pad to the base of the cleaner. Most pads are affixed by a drawstring method that holds the pad tightly while in use, yet allows it to be freed easily for post-mopping clean up.

  5. 5

Turn the machine on and wait about 15 seconds for the water to heat. You will notice steam beginning to rise from the microfiber pad. Begin to mop the floor, starting along one wall. Continue until you have steamed the entire floor.

  6. 6

Turn off the steam cleaner and allow it to cool for 10 minutes. Remove the microfiber pad and wash it in the washing machine with other towels. The floor will dry quickly, approximately 10 minutes after completion.
