Gchat is an easy, accessible way to chat with people through your Google e-mail account (also known as Gmail). You may add your contacts to Gchat manually, but often a contact will be automatically added to your list if they are also a Gmail user and have corresponded with you through e-mail. You may end up with an unwanted Craigslist seller or a potential employer on your buddy list. It may seem tricky at first glance, but there is a simple solution for removing your unwanted contacts from Gchat without deleting their e-mail address or contact information.

  1. 1

Log in to your Gmail account. Locate your contact list on the bottom left-hand side of the screen.

  2. 2

Find the name of the contact you would like to remove and hover over it with your cursor. A box containing your contact's information will appear to the right.

  3. 3

Drag your cursor to the "Video & more" drop-down menu in the toolbar and click on the downward arrow. Select "Never show" listed under the "Show in chat list" section. The contact has now been removed from your Gchat contact list.
