PowerPoint is a presentation program from Microsoft that is sold as standalone software or as part of the Office suite of productivity applications. One of the file extensions used with PowerPoint documents is PowerPoint Macro (PPTM). A macro PowerPoint presentation contains VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) code. Normally the files use an extension of PPT for files created with PowerPoint versions before 2007, and PPTX for those created with PowerPoint 2007. You can convert PPTM file to PPT by following a few steps.

    Launch PowerPoint 2007. Click the Windows "Start" button and then "All Programs." Click the "PowerPoint 2007" option under the Microsoft Office listing to open the program. If you do not have PowerPoint 2007, it is available as part of the free trial of Office 2007 on the Microsoft site.

    Open the PPTM file that you want convert to PPT. Click the Microsoft Office button and select the "Open" option to launch the "Open" pop up box. Use the address bar to select the folder in which the PPTM document is located. Make certain the "Files of type" field is listed as "All PowerPoint files." Highlight the document name and click the "Open" button.

    Click the Microsoft Office button and select the "Save As" option to launch the "Save As" pop up box. Use the address bar to select a folder in which to save the PPT document. Use the "Save as type" drop down menu to select the "PPT" option. Type a name for the PPT file into the "File name" field and click the "Save" button to complete the process of converting the PPTM file to a PPT file.

    Download the appropriate Office 2007 compatibility pack from Microsoft, based on the version of Office you are running. Navigate to the Compatibility Pack Download Page. Review the system requirements necessary to install the pack to make certain your system meets the minimum standards. Click the "Microsoft Update" link and follow the download instructions.

    Launch your version of PowerPoint. Click the Windows "Start" button and then "All Programs." Click the "PowerPoint" option under the Microsoft Office listing to open the program.

    Install a conversion application, such as "Convert PowerPoint" from Softinterface. This free software has the ability to convert PPTM files to PPT without having any version of PowerPoint installed on your computer.

    Launch the "Convert PowerPoint" program. Select the "Convert Files" option on the "Convert PowerPoint" dialogue window. Use the "Original file format" menu to select the "PPTM" option. Use the "Folder" button to locate the folder in which the PPTM file is saved. Highlight the file name and click the "Open" button.

    Use the "Select target file" menu to select the "PPT" option. Use the "Folder" button to select a folder in which to save the converted PPT file. Click the "Advanced Options" button and use the "What to convert" section to choose which part of the presentation to convert.
