Whether you are hanging new sheer curtains on your windows or hanging freshly washed sheers, you may find unsightly wrinkles in the curtains after you hang them. The method you use to remove the wrinkles depends upon the sheer fabric and the manufacturer's care instructions for the curtains. Proceed carefully to take wrinkles out of sheer curtains to avoid damaging the fabric in the process. When you finish, your sheers will hang crisply and neatly from your curtain rods.

  1. 1

Hang the sheers on the curtain rods. Hold the handheld steamer approximately 10 inches away from the sheers and direct the steam onto the fabric, starting from the top and working your way down to the floor. Apply the steam until you remove all wrinkles from the sheers. Allow the sheers to dry and they should hang neatly without wrinkles.

  2. 2

Place the sheers into the dryer, which should not be more than about 1/3 full. Dampen the bath towel with water and add it to the dryer. Set the dryer temperature to medium-low and start the dryer. Allow the dryer to run until the towel dries completely. Hang the sheers immediately onto the curtain rods, and any remaining wrinkles should fall out easily.

  3. 3

Set the iron to a medium heat temperature with steam. Arrange the sheers onto the ironing board and place a press cloth over the sheers. Iron carefully with the press cloth between the iron and the sheer fabric until you remove every wrinkle. Hang the sheers onto the curtain rods immediately.

Tips and warnings

  • Check the manufacturer's care instructions before you place the sheers in the dryer or iron them to ensure you do not use a method that will damage the fabric of the sheers. Always use the coolest temperature in the dryer and on the iron that will be effective for removing the wrinkles.
