Instructions

  1. 1

Confirm your insurance enrolment status in a state social security system in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. You must be covered by such a system at home to be eligible for a European Health Insurance Card.

  2. 2

Contact your local health authority. The local health authority will walk you through the application process. The agency will issue you a provisional European Health Insurance Card or an official European Health Insurance Card. Depending on your home country, the application process can be completed in person, over the telephone or online. You will most likely be asked to provide your name, date of birth and health insurance coverage information.

  3. 3

Use SOLVIT, the European Commission's problem-solving website, if the local health authority rejects your application.
