How to Recover Cell Batteries

When attempting to recover the original performance of your batteries, there are several methods you can use to increase the batteries' available use times and then prevent those use times from drastically falling after the proper correction has been made. While results will vary, these practices can be used on Nickel-Cadmium (NiCad), Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), and Lithium-Ion batteries (Lith-Ion).

    Power-Cycling Your Battery

    Plug in you phone to the device's wall charger. Do not attempt to use a car charger.

    Allow the battery to charge for a full 24-hour period.

    Unplug the phone and use the device until the battery fully wears down (the phone turns off).

    Plug the phone back into the wall charger and repeat the 24-hour charge-and-drain process a total of three times.

    Charge the battery again for 24 hours and allow it to drain all the way down again after every 10 uses (except for Lithium-Ion batteries, which only need to be power-cycled every 25 to 30 uses).

    Storing and Charging Your Battery

    Charge your battery in areas that are close to or slightly below room temperature. Charging batteries in very low and especially very hot temperatures can cause damage to the battery.

    Use your phone when possible in room-temperature areas, especially when experiencing battery issues, This ensures the battery can work at normal temperature levels, thus improving battery use until the battery corrects itself.

    Avoid "rapid chargers" for batteries other than Lithium-Ion. These chargers tend to overexert the battery and can cause damage to their cells.

    Plug your phone into the wall charger for charging purposes, avoiding car chargers, since the regulation of power to these devices is not always as constant as AC wall-outlet-based options.

Tips and warnings

  • Leaving batteries in excessive heat can damage batteries, and may even cause them to melt or catch fire.
