Painting can bring out a child's creativity while passing the time during a raining day. However, no matter how hard you try there is bound to be some type of paint splatter. Fortunately, there are a number of washable paint products on the market that allows your child to creative beautiful works of art without ruining your home. Washable paint is easier to remove then other paints yet it still requires a few items and a little elbow grease.

Things you need

  • Sponge
  • Water
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Cloth
  • Pretreat stain remover
  • Bleach safe for coloured cloths
  • Mild abrasive cleaner
  • Cotton ball

    Remove Washable Paint from Carpet

    Saturate a sponge with cool water and wring out the excess liquid.

  2. 2

    Sponge the stain starting at the edge and work towards the centre.

  3. 3

    Pour rubbing alcohol in a small bowel or container. Submerge a clean sponge in the rubbing alcohol and wring out the excess liquid.

    Blot the paint stain with the sponge. Work from the outer edge and move towards the centre.

    Continue blotting until the paint stain is gone. Rinse the carpet by patting with a damp cloth.

    Remove Washable Paint from Clothing

    Rinse the paint stain from the garment with hot water. Hold the item under the sink faucet for a few minutes until the water running off the garment is clear.

    Apply a pretreat stain remover to the item. Alternatively, apply bleach safe for coloured clothing to the stain.

    Launder the item as you normally would.

    Examine the clothing after the wash cycle. If stain persists, repeat the process. Do not dry garments in the dryer if stains are still present. Heat will set the paint stain into the fabric.

    Remove Washable Paint from Wood, Paneling, Vinyl or Plastic

    Dampen a sponge with cool water.

    Apply a drop of a mild abrasive cleaner to the sponge.

  3. 3

    Rub the paint stain with the sponge in a circular motion.

  4. 4

    Wipe the wood clean with a damp cloth. If stain persists, continue on to Step 5.

    Saturate a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol. Rub the paint stain with the cotton ball until the stain is gone. Rinse clean with a damp cloth.

Tips and warnings

  • Test the stain removal method on an inconspicuous area. If damage occurs, discontinue use.
