Sky Broadband is an Internet service provider for "Sky Digital" customers. Sky Broadband reaches millions of customers in several parts of the United Kingdom. While Sky Broadband is faster than most cable or dial-up connections available in the UK, it may have issues from time to time. Sky Broadband does have a customer service hotline like any other Internet service providers. However, before dialling and waiting on the phone to talk to a customer representative, you may want to follow a few steps to troubleshoot the problem yourself. Please note that this will only help if the problem originates from your end.

  1. 1

Check the network devices by making sure your modem is connected to the power source and the lights on it are blinking. Check the ports on the rear side to make sure your modem is connected to the main Internet source via a broadband cable. If you use a router, make sure it is connected to the modem. The lights on your router should blink as well.

  2. 2

Upgrade your modem if it is more than 5-6 years old. Make sure your cable modem conforms to the V.90 or V.92 standards. This will ensure a fast broadband connection.

  3. 3

Unplug your modem for about 2-3 minutes. If you use a router, unplug it as well. Plug it back on and restart your computer. Sometimes a simple restart can troubleshoot issues with Sky Broadband.

  4. 4

Check your network connection settings. Right-click on the Internet connection icon on your system tray (next to the clock) and select "Repair."

  5. 5

Click on the Start button and select "Run..." Type "devmgmt.msc" without the quotes and press the "Enter" key. This will launch your "Device Manager." Click on the "+" sign next to network adaptors. Right-click on your device and select "Update Driver Software..." An outdated driver can cause connection issues.

  6. 6

Select "Disable" instead of "Update Driver Software..." from Step 5 and wait a few seconds. Right-click on your wireless device again and select "Enable."

  7. 7

Contact Sky Broadband customer service (see Resources for phone numbers) if none of the above steps work.
