Darth Maul, the insidious villain in the first Star Wars movie ("The Phantom Menace"), with his red and black face paint and double-bladed light sabre makes for a scary costume--perfect for Halloween. Darth Maul's familiar black robe is an essential part of the costume, wrapping tightly around the body to allow for effective sabre fighting. Replicating this robe is possible with a modified oversized T-shirt.

Instructions

  1. 1

Cut the T-shirt using the scissors from the centre of the front of the collar vertically through the base of the shirt. It should now function similarly to a robe with the ability to open and close.

  2. 2

Measure the spool of satin ribbon along the cut edges of the T-shirt. Take note of the length of ribbon.

  3. 3

Cut the ribbon at the measured length.

  4. 4

Sew the ribbon along the edges of the T-shirt using the black thread. The edge of the ribbon should be flush with the cut edges of the shirt.

  5. 5

Place the robe over the person who is to wear the costume and fold one side of the robe over the other. Measure enough length of ribbon around the waist to be able to wrap it around several times. To complete the robe, wrap this ribbon around the waist and tie it shut.
