If you use Google Maps to search for directions or to view locations, you can drop a pin or placemark on a map if you have a Google account. This is useful if you want to mark places you want to visit on a map. If you want to drop a pin on Google Maps, you only need to sign in to your Google account to get started.
Create or select a map to drop a pin. Create a map by clicking "My Maps" and then click "Create new map." Enter the location information for the map, add a description and then decide whether you want the map to be public or unlisted. A menu will open at the top left of the map; you can choose to add a placemark here.
Click "My Maps" to view a map you have already created. Select the map you want to view and when the map opens, click "Edit." A menu will open at the top left of the map that has options for editing the map, including the option to drop a pin or placemark.
Click the "Placemark" button. Your mouse pointer will show up as a blue pin when you hover over the map.
Click a location on the map where you want to drop the placemark. A box will pop up for you to enter the details for the pin you dropped; enter a description and click "OK." When you are finished, click "Save" to save the map.
