How to Burn Xbox 360 Games Without Using a DVDR
The Xbox 360's hard drive can replace an optical disc for playing backups of games. (hard drive image by iMAGINE from Fotolia.com)

Owners of the Xbox 360 prefer to play their legally owned games from copies so that the originals can remain undisturbed. You can play one of your Xbox 360 video games without having to burn the copy to an optical disc--instead you will "burn" a copy of the game disc to the game console's hard drive. Playing a copy of a video game disc from the hard drive will only work if the Xbox 360 has been modified (or "moded") first.

Instructions

  1. 1

Turn on the Xbox 360. Go to the "Network" icon from the Home menu. Select "Web Browser."

  2. 2

Go to an Xbox 360 modification website--for example, the sourceforge website (see the link in Resources). Download a DVD copy program--for example, the DVD2XBOX program. Follow the menu commands to install the program onto the Xbox 360's hard drive.

  3. 3

Go to the "Applications" icon from the Home menu. Select the DVD copy program from the list of choices presented under "Applications." Press the "X" button on the game controller to activate the DVD copy program.

  4. 4

Eject the disc tray of the DVD drive. Place the game disc that you want to play from a copy onto the disc tray.

  5. 5

Go to "Settings" in the DVD copy program's menu screen. Check the "G" drive icons on the screen.

  6. 6

Select the "Games" folder that appears beneath the "G" drive icon. Press the "A" button on the game controller.

  7. 7

Close the disc tray of the DVD drive.

  8. 8

Wait for a confirmation window to appear on the screen. Select the "Start" button on the confirmation window.

  9. 9

Press the "A" button on the game controller. Wait as the Xbox 360 video game is copied to the hard drive.

  10. 10

Quit the DVD copy program when a "Done" window appears on the screen.

  11. 11

Navigate back to the "Applications" icon from the Home menu. Select the game that has been copied to the hard drive from the list of choices presented under the "Games" folder.

  12. 12

Press the "A" button on the game controller to start the game.

Tips and warnings

  • Make sure that there is enough storage space on the hard drive to hold the Xbox 360 game disc copy.
  • Modifying an Xbox 360 voids the Microsoft warranty and repairs will be refused by both Microsoft and an authorised service centre.
