A dip stand is used for exercising and increasing the size of the triceps. You place yourself in a position that puts your chest even with the top, putting your hands on the bars and raising and lowering your body using the strength of your arms. A dip stand is compact and can be used in small spaces. You can build a homemade dip stand out of PVC pipe for a fraction of the cost of one that is commercially produced.

Instructions

  1. 1

Cut 1 ¼ inch PVC pipe to the following sizes with a hacksaw: two pieces 12 inches in length, two pieces 36 inches in length and seven pieces 24 inches in length.

  2. 2

Place a 1 ¼ inch 90-degree elbow on both ends of a 12-inch section of pipe. Place a 36-inch piece of pipe into each elbow. Secure all joints with PVC glue. This is the back of the dip stand.

  3. 3

Place a 1 ¼ inch 90-degree elbow on both ends of a 12-inch section of PVC pipe. Place a 24-inch section of pipe into each elbow. Place a 1 ¼ inch PVC tee onto the ends of both 24-inch pipe sections. Secure all joints with PVC glue.

  4. 4

Insert a 12-inch section of pipe into the tops of both tees. Place the ends of a 12-inch section of pipe into the side of the tees. Secure with PVC glue. This is the front of the dip stand.

  5. 5

Place a 90-degree elbow on both ends of a 12-inch section of PVC pipe. Repeat to make an identical piece. Secure all joints with PVC glue. These pieces are the side rails.

  6. 6

Place one of the elbows on a side rail over the pipe on the front of the dip stand on the left side. Place the second elbow on the side rail over the pipe on the back of the dip stand on the left side. Secure the joints with PVC glue. This is the left side rail.

  7. 7

Place one of the elbows on a side rail over the pipe on the front of the dip stand on the right side. Place the second elbow on the side rail over the pipe on the back of the dip stand on the right side. Secure the joints with PVC glue. This is the right side rail. The dip stand is complete.
