Appliances add value to your kitchen. An oven door that has defects in the paint --- such as scratches --- is not only an eyesore, it decreases the value of your space. You can spruce up that oven door with heat-resistant epoxy appliance spray paint. This special paint is intended to stick to the metal surfaces of appliances, unlike the paints designed for interior and exterior walls. Heat-resistant epoxy appliance paint is specifically designed for appliances like stoves and ovens.

Clean the oven door thoroughly before painting. Use a scouring pad and degreasing agent to remove any grease or debris. Then, dry the oven door with a clean towel.

Sand away any rust on the oven door with a piece of sandpaper. Then wipe away any sandpaper residue from the oven door.

Tape off the areas of the hob, oven window or the surrounding cabinetry with painter's tape to prevent accidentally painting them. Also, cover areas such as the floor, knobs and handles, or other close surfaces with a painter's dust sheet. Tape paper over surfaces to cover them. If you can remove the oven handle, do so with a Phillips screwdriver, otherwise cover it unless it is being painted as well.

Open the window to allow proper ventilation. Wear a mask over your nose; appliance paint fumes are strong.

Shake appliance paint can vigorously for 1 minute to mix the paint inside. Hold the spray can 10 to 12 inches from the oven door. Apply the paint with smooth strokes. Allow it to dry for 10 minutes. Then paint a second coat, if coverage is not complete.

TIP

The oven should be completely cool before beginning to paint.
