How to Make an Xbox 360 Read Backup Games
Modifying the internal DVD drive of the Xbox 360 will void the warranty. (dvd drive image by Astroid from Fotolia.com)

A backup of a legally owned Xbox 360 video game disc protects the original from being harmed during use. You can make your Xbox 360 able to read backup game discs, even though the operating system has been crippled to keep this from happening. You will have to partially disassemble the Xbox 360, voiding the Microsoft warranty, to remove the DVD drive and connect it to a Windows-based computer. You will then use software created by Xbox enthusiasts and a solderless mod chip assembly you can buy from a video game modification website to enable the Xbox 360 DVD drive to play backup games. The procedure is straightforward but is involved and requires two to three hours to complete.
