How to Change the Headlight in a Honda CRV

Updated April 17, 2017

Changing a headlight in a Honda CRV is simple and can be done without the help of a mechanic. The Honda CRV has not changed much since the company first started production of the car. Although the car looks more modern now, the mechanics of the CRV haven't changed much.

Disconnect the connector that is attached to the back of the headlight assembly by pulling it straight out.

Remove the round rubber weather seal by pulling on one of the tabs.

Unclasp the end of the metal hold-down wire and carefully pivot it away from the bulb. Use a flashlight to look at the metal hold-down wire before disconnecting it. Once you begin, you will have to use your sense of touch because of its location.

Pull the bulb straight out of the headlight assembly.

Install the new headlight bulb by pushing it straight into the headlight assembly.

Reinstall the round rubber weather seal. Be sure it completely seals around the entire circumference of the assembly to prevent leaking.

When handling the bulb, hold it by the metal base only. Do not let the bulb make contact with body oils and prevent it from being scratched. This will prevent the bulb from failing or shattering.
