There are many occasions when you may want to send a letter or invitation to a family, such as birthdays, weddings and graduations. Addressing those announcements to an entire family is an easy process that can help you get the word out to everyone in a household.

Decide what kind of envelope you need. Invitations come in all shapes and sizes, and you want yours to fit.

Slip the letter or invitation into the envelope, moisten the seal and smooth down the flap.

Flip the envelope over. Write your return address in the upper left corner.

Double-check that you have the correct address for the family.

With your pen, address the envelope to "The __ Family", filling in the blank with the family name. You can also address it to the plural form of the family, such as "The Smiths." If the family you are writing to has a name that ends in an "s", remember that the plural form uses an "es" suffix, such as "The Joneses". Either of these formats is correct.

Add the address underneath the family name. Remember to include the street name and house number, the city, the state and the postcode. Secure a stamp in the upper right corner, and your envelope is ready to mail.

TIP

If you want a more individualised approach, you can address the envelope to all of the members in a family, such as "Bob, Jane and Billy Smith".
