Having your own greenhouse can be rewarding and allow for a closer connection to nature. It can provide an excellent environment for growing all kinds of plants. Erecting a greenhouse can be done economically and fairly quickly. Factors to consider are how much space you have, your goals and your budget. For example, location is important since it will need to be placed where to get the most sunlight. The south side of your home would be ideal if there aren't trees blocking the sun. You also need to check if there are any zoning restrictions. Constructing your greenhouse does require some design and installation planning and some key materials. This is how to erect a simple, lightweight greenhouse using plastic film which is relatively inexpensive and perfect for a starter greenhouse.

Things you need
- Concrete pavers for 24 square feet
- Hammer and nails
- 5 sheets of 4 by 6 foot plastic film cover.
- electrical tape
- 110-volt electric space heater
Place a concrete paver on the ground where you have determined your greenhouse will go. You will need 24 square feet of pavers. Use pavers since they can be removed or reinstalled if you want to move or expand your greenhouse. Make sure you have access to water and electricity.
Build a simple frame using posts on four corners which are set in the ground around the concrete. Agricultural engineers at The University of West Virginia devised greenhouse plans that list additional frame types, coverings and heating options.
Cover the floor with three inches of gravel which will allow for drainage of excess water. Spray the gravel regularly to create proper humidity in the greenhouse.
Secure plastic film to the sides of three of the four wooden posts. Put six small nails in each post. Secure the fifth and remaining plastic film cover to the tops of the posts for the roof covering.
Create an access door on one side of the greenhouse. Use the remaining side of plastic film. Use electrical tape to secure film to the post. This is an access door so don't tape too tightly.
Place the 110-volt electrical heater in the middle of the greenhouse. Turn it on during cold nights or days to maintain the temperature your plants require.
