  1. 1

Clean your appliance thoroughly. Use a water-based cleanser and a rough sponge or scouring pad and scrub every surface of the appliance. Use an old toothbrush or small scrub brush to clean small openings. Rinse the surfaces and scrub again, if necessary.

  2. 2

Sand every surface of the appliance using a circular motion. Sand once with 400-grit sandpaper then again with 600-grit sandpaper. Do not sand through the old paint to the metal, sand only to remove the old paint gloss.

  3. 3

Vacuum off the dust from the appliance surfaces. Wipe the surfaces with an oil-free microfiber tack rag to remove any leftover dust. Wipe down the surfaces with denatured alcohol.

  4. 4

Apply masking tape to any part of the appliance you don't want to paint, such as the handles. Cover the floor with a plastic painting tarp.

  5. 5

Read the directions on the spray paint can to determine the accurate drying time in between coats, as well as the total drying time.

  6. 6

Put on your spray mask before spraying paint on your appliance. Spray two to three coats of paint on your appliance, making sure to follow the directions regarding drying time between coats.
