Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, more commonly known as BMW, has made automobiles since 1916. The cars they make, besides the racing vehicles, are coupes and sedans. The windshield washer system requires the pump to force the solvent through the system and out the nozzles, spraying the windshield for the wipers to clean more easily. The washer pump is located on the windshield-washer reservoir, which resides in front of the front passenger-side wheel well. Fortunately, getting to this location and replacing the washer pump is a straightforward process.

  1. 1

Kneel beside the front passenger-side wheel well and note the bolts holding the inner bumper well in place.

  2. 2

Remove the two belts holding the inner bumper wheel in place using the socket wrench, turning counterclockwise. Pull the inner bumper wheel out of the way, revealing the cavity holding the windshield-washer reservoir and the washer pump, and tuck the inner bumper well against the tire.

  3. 3

Pull the power cable off the washer pump by depressing the tabs on the side of the plug and pulling toward you. Pull the delivery hose off the pump nipple by firmly grabbing the hose and pulling downward.

  4. 4

Pull the pump out of the washer reservoir by gripping the pump firmly and pulling the pump past the tabs of the reservoir that hold the pump in place. Be careful as you pull the pump out not to scrape your arm against the inner bumper.
