How to Tell an Authentic Chanel Jacket

Chanel is one of the most popular names in fashion and therefore one of the most frequently reproduced and counterfeited. While it is easy to identify the design elements of a Chanel jacket, it is not always easy to tell whether or not the garment is genuine or fake. Don't be swayed by an attractive price tag on the iconic Chanel jacket before checking your facts to be sure it's authentic.

Check the inside of the jacket for a silk lining that always displays the Chanel interlocked "C" logo woven throughout the fabric.

Look for a brass chain sewn around the jacket's hem--added for weight, to help the jacket lay nicer and prevent wrinkling.

Identify the Chanel interlocking "C" logo on each button. It can be in front or stamped on the back.

Count the number of panels in the jacket's lining. There should be the same amount of panels as there are tweed on the outside of the jacket. The purpose of this type of construction is to allow for easier tailoring.
