Creating your own boot for football is a relatively easy process. (football image by sonya etchison from

Football is perhaps the most popular sport in the United States, particularly among children and teenagers. Anyone with an Internet connection can create their own football boot, customising the design and colour relatively easily. Most brands that sell football shoes, well-known or not, offer a way for you to personalise your shoe online. Customising your football boot can be simple if you find the right website.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Know your size. Before beginning to build your football boot, it's a good idea to leave the guesswork out of the process and figure out the size of your feet. The best way to do that is to visit your local shoe store, or better yet, a sporting goods store that sells football shoes. Once at the store, have an associate measure both of your feet. After that, try on the brands of the shoe you plan to customise to get the best fit.

  2. 2

Know your options. A number of companies allow you to build your football boots online. Nike has become quite popular in this area with its NikeiD brand. Also, adidas boasts a line of customisable football shoes on its Mi adidas site. See References for links.

  3. 3

Choose your style. Once you've decided on a brand, you'll need to choose the style of football boot you want to customise, although the process is similar for most. For instance, if you decide on Nike, you can pick from more than 10 different styles of football shoes.

  4. 4

Pick your bases. All of the customisable shoe companies contain a first step that allows you to colour the base of your football boot. Most shoes have an inside and outside base, giving you the option of using two different primary colours, or just one if you pick the same colour for both bases. Colours for most companies range from different shades of blue, red, yellow and green, to black and white.

  5. 5

Pick your laces. Laces can add style to your football boot, and all of the major customisable sites come with a wide array of colours. Using the Nike Mercurial Talaria as an example, you can choose from traditional colours such as dark red or light blue, or newer ones such as grape or florescent green.

  6. 6

Colour your tongue. In addition to the bases and laces, customisable football boot companies also allow you to pick a separate colour for the tongue of the shoe. Some, such as NikeiD and Mi adidas, even give you the option of colouring the eyelets on the tongue through which the laces thread.

  7. 7

Place your order. Now that your boot is customised, all you need to do is choose a size and buy it. Once that process is complete, you can expect to receive your self-created football boots in about three to five weeks.
