How to Make a Hollywood Marquee Out of Cardboard

Give your play or home movie screening some red-carpet sizzle by creating your own Hollywood-style marquee. Or make your own marquee out of cardboard and glue for a Hollywood-themed party or red-carpet-themed night. Mount the letters of the play or movie title on a cardboard sheet and hang from the doorway for an authentic feel.

Things you need

  • At least 3 cardboard boxes (large boxes if you are making a large letters, smaller boxes for smaller letters)
  • Glue
  • Paper
  • Pen or pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • String

Instructions

  1. 1

    Trace each letter of the play or movie title onto a separate piece of paper using a pen or pencil.

    Cut out each letter using scissors.

  3. 3

    Cut the cardboard boxes so you have large, flat sheets of cardboard. Make sure you have enough flat sheets to accommodate every letter.

    Using the templates you cut out on paper, trace one letter on each piece of cardboard.

  5. 5

    Cut out the cardboard letters.

  6. 6

    Glue every letter in order onto the side of a long cardboard box or cardboard sheet.

  7. 7

    Decorate around the letters with paint or markers to customise the marquee.

  8. 8

    Punch two holes in either side of the cardboard box or sheet and thread string through.

  9. 9

    Hang the marquee in a doorway or another prominent entrance space.
