How to Make a PCSX2 Faster

As technology continues to advance, it has become possible to play console video games from your computer. A console emulator is a software that imitates video game hardware consoles, and allows users to play their video games on their computers. PCSX2 is a console emulator that imitates the PlayStation 2 (PS2) video game console. The PCSX2 requires optimum computer performance in order to work properly.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Analyse the hardware specifications of your computer. The PCSX2 emulator works best on computers with the following settings: 2 GB of memory or higher, 256 MB of video card memory or higher and multi-core processors.

  2. 2

Optimise your computer configurations. Make sure you have sufficient memory (RAM) available. This can be done by disabling unnecessary start-up programs. If you are using Windows XP, go to the Start Menu, and click "Run." Type "msconfig," and hit the "Enter" button. If you are using Windows Vista, simply type "msconfig" into the search bar, and click on the Windows system configuration icon.

  3. 3

Update your computer's graphics. DirectX is a computer graphics controller from Microsoft. Download and install the latest version of DirectX graphics accelerator to your computer for better performance. Make sure that your graphics card supports the version of DirectX you are installing. Download DirectX from the gaming page of Microsoft (see Resources).

  4. 4

Configure the sound settings. Open the PCSX2 emulator, go to "Config" and select "Sound". Next, select the SPU2-X sound driver. Disable "Effects Processing" to increase the performance of the PCSX2. Next, disable "Time Expansion" and "Time Stretching". This will cause a slight decrease in quality, but will substantially increase performance.
