Ice cream sticks, also known as "craft" sticks, are great for craft projects: they are easy to work with and are not dangerous for kids. One easy craft to start out with is a pencil holder made out of craft sticks. This is a project that kids can be proud of and can use for themselves, or give to a family member. Not only does the child get to create something useful, he also gets to use his creativity.

  1. 1

Trace the end of the empty toilet paper roll onto a piece of cardboard and cut it out. Glue it onto the end of the toilet paper roll. This will be the bottom of the pencil holder.

  2. 2

Cover the tube with a coating of craft glue. Place the ice cream sticks side by side onto the tube until they have gone all the way around the tube. They should cover the tube completely.

  3. 3

Wrap two rubber bands around the craft sticks and the tube and allow them to dry for at least an hour.

  4. 4

Remove the rubber bands and decorate the pencil holder using markers and stickers.

  5. 5

Place a few pencils into the pencil holder.

Tips and warnings

  • You may wish to decorate the craft sticks before gluing them to the tube.
