A rubber band has many uses and they are all based on the fact that the rubber band stretches when pulled and contracts when released. You can use the energy generated by a rubber band to make a rubber band gun that will fire when you pull its "trigger." Your rubber band gun will only need a few supplies from a hobby store and about 10 minutes of your time. Adult supervision is required if you are underage because you will be using scissors.

  2. 2

Tape the three craft sticks together at the left, middle and right sides with cellophane tape.

  3. 3

Cut off the rounded tips from one side of the three craft sticks with the scissors.

  4. 4

Repeat this entire process with another three craft sticks.

  5. 5

Cut a craft stick in half with the scissors.

  6. 6

Put the non-cut ends of both of the two sets of craft sticks against one another. Tape the ends together at the top, middle and bottom using cellophane tape.

  7. 7

Place one of the cut halfs of the craft stick on top of the middle of the two sets of craft sticks where they meet at their non-cut ends. Tape the craft stick onto the two sets of craft sticks with cellophane tape.

  8. 8

Flip the two sets of craft sticks over and tape the ends on the other side with cellophane tape in the same manner as was just done. Tape the other cut half of the craft stick to the middle of the non-cut ends of the two sets of craft sticks in the same manner as was just done.

  9. 9

Flip the two sets of craft sticks over again.

  10. 10

Unbend the paper clip with your fingers. Bend a hook in one end of the paper clip with your fingers. Bend a loop in the other end of the paper clip with your fingers.

  11. 11

Put a craft stick on its side down on the table horizontally. Put another craft stick above the first one that was put down on the table so that their sides touch.

  12. 12

Tape the two craft sticks together at the left, middle and right sides with cellophane tape.

  13. 13

Place one end of the two craft sticks against the bottom at one end of the two sets of craft sticks to form a handle. Tape the ends of the two craft sticks to the end of the two sets of craft sticks with cellophane tape.

  14. 14

Place the craft sticks on the table so that the handle is vertical on the table and the two sets of craft sticks are horizontal on the table.

  15. 15

Make a hole through the middle of the two sets of craft sticks with the tip of one of the blades of the scissors.

  16. 16

Place the loop of the paper clip over the hole. Insert one end of a toothpick into the hole.

  17. 17

Make a notch in one end of a craft stick. Tape the non-notched end of the craft stick onto the end of the two sets of craft sticks with cellophane tape.

  18. 18

Loop one end of the rubber band in the notch at the end of the craft stick. Stretch the rubber band to the other end of the rubber band gun you have made. Loop the end of the rubber band through the hook of the paper clip.

  19. 19

Hold your rubber band gun by the handle that was made from two craft sticks. Aim your rubber band gun at a far wall. Push down on the loop of paper clip that is now your "trigger" to fire the rubber band at the far wall.

Tips and warnings

  • You can use a needle-nosed pliers to bend the paper clip if you don't want to use your hands.
  • Never aim or fire a rubber band gun at a person because you could hurt their eyes with the rubber band.
