How to Play a Flash Drive on a DVD Player

There was a time when a DVD player could only play videos off a DVD disc. Improvements to DVD player technology have added USB ports that allow the DVD player to access video and music off a USB flash drive. You do not need to change any of the settings of the DVD player to be able to play content off a USB flash drive. The DVD player will be able to continue playing DVDs as well.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port on the computer. Wait for the icon of the USB flash drive to appear on the desktop.

    Drag a video, music or photo file onto the icon of the USB flash drive. Wait for the video, music or photo file to be copied to the USB flash drive.

    Right-click on the icon of the USB flash drive. Select “Eject” from the pop-up menu.

    Remove the USB flash drive from the USB port of the computer.

    Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port on the DVD player. Turn the DVD player on.

    Press the “Menu” button on the DVD player’s remote control.

    Navigate to the “Video” or “Music” or “Photos” tab. Select the icon of the USB flash drive that is beneath the “Video” or “Music” or “Photos” tab.

    Select the video or music or photo file that is in the list to the right of the “Video” or “Music” or “Photos” tab.

    Press the "Enter” or “Return” button on the DVD player’s remote control. Watch the video or photo or listen to the music being played by the DVD player from the USB flash drive.

    Turn off the DVD player when you are done watching or listening. Remove the USB flash drive from the USB port on the DVD player.

Tips and warnings

  • Check the DVD player's user manual to see which file formats can and cannot be played from the USB flash drive.
  • Inexpensive USB flash drives can cause disk errors on the files and prevent them from playing properly when inserted in the DVD player.
