How to Update TomTom Software

Updated April 17, 2017

TomTom occasionally releases software updates for its GPS navigation devices in order to eliminate bugs and ensure that your device runs efficiently. Some updates also contain new or improved features, so you should always update the device when a new update is released. Before you begin the update process, you should make sure that the TomTom HOME software that came with your TomTom device is installed on your computer.

Connect your TomTom device to your home computer with the USB connector cable. Turn the device on. If the TomTom HOME software does not automatically start, open the “Start” menu, highlight “All Programs,” and select “TomTom HOME” from the “TomTom” folder.

Click the “Update my device” button in TomTom HOME to begin the device update procedure. TomTom will check for updates and present you with a list of available updates.

Select any updates you want installed to your TomTom device by clicking the checkbox next to the update name. Press the “Download Updates” button to download all selected updates.

Wait for TomTom home to download and install all selected updates to your TomTom device. Click the “Done” button when the installation process is complete.

Click the “HOME” menu and select “Device” to open a sub-menu. Select “Disconnect Device” from the sub-menu. Disconnect your device from your computer.
