According to the Cowboy Fabrics company in Montana, bandannas were once used as neckerchief by ranch workers. The workers would wear the bandannas around their necks, and would pull them up to cover their faces and noses, protecting them from dust, dirt and foul smells. Today the bandanna is used in a number of versatile ways, including on the head as a type of hair accessory. One way to wear a bandanna on the head is in the form of a skull cap, which hugs your head tightly, covering up your hair and keeping your head warm. There are two popular ways to wear a bandanna skull cap.

Instructions

    Back Knot

  1. 1

Lay the bandanna flat in front of you with one corner pointing directly at you, so that it looks like a diamond.

  2. 2

Fold the bottom corner up towards the top corner. Leave five inches between the top corner and the one you fold; crease the bottom of the bandanna so that it forms a flat line.

  3. 3

Pick up the bandanna near the centre of the flat side. Press the flat side against your forehead; follow the line of the bandanna back until you grab both corners.

  4. 4

Pull the corners back behind your head and tie them together tightly but comfortably. You can either tie the third corner in with the other two, tuck it under the knot or let it hang loosely.

    Front Knot

Press the flat side against the back of your head; follow the line of the bandanna forward so that you grab all three corners at your forehead.

  4. 4

Tie the two side corners together. You can either tie the third corner in with the other two or tuck it under the knot. Tuck extra fabric from the tails of the knots under the rim of the bandanna so that they do not hang in your eyes.

Tips and warnings

  • If you have trouble fitting the skull cap to your head, fold the corners in Step One closer together to make it smaller, or farther apart to make it larger.
