- USB data cable
- Network router
- Ethernet cable
- Driver installation CD
Connect the USB data cable into one of the USB ports on the printer, then insert the opposite end of the cable into one of the USB ports on the HP Jetdirect 170X.
Plug the Ethernet cable into the "In" port on the back of the HP Jetdirect 170X. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable into one of the numbered "Out" ports on your network router. This is the same router you connect all the computers to on your network.
Insert the driver installation CD into one of the computers and in a moment the driver installation wizard appears on the screen. Follow the brief set of prompts to complete the installation. Once done repeat the process with all of the computers on the network.
Launch one of the computer's Internet browser, then look onto the bottom of the HP Jetdirect 170X. There is an http address listed here. Type the address into the URL bar on your browser and press "Enter." This opens the print server's activation page.
Type in a username and password you want for the print server, then check off that you are using it on a network. Click "Save" and the JP Jetdirect 170X is ready for use.
