The Samsung CLP 500 is a colour laser printer that is ideal for a small business or home office. This printer has four individual colour toner cartridges that can be replaced as needed. CLP 500 has other consumable parts that need to be replaced from time to time in order to keep the print quality looking crisp and professional. The imaging unit (drum) and the transfer belt should be replaced every 50,000 pages.

  1. 1

Stand facing the printer. Grasp the handle on the left cover and open it. Press the top cover release button at the top left side of the printer and lift the top cover until it is completely open.

  2. 2

Remove the transfer belt assembly. Locate the two lock levers inside the printer. One is located against the front frame and the other is against the rear frame. Pull them both toward the left to release the lock levers. Grab the handle on the transfer belt and pull it up and to the left to remove it from the printer. Set the transfer belt aside on a piece of clean paper. Loose toner may spill, so make sure that you don’t set the transfer belt or imaging drum on a surface that can’t get dirty.

  3. 3

Look inside the printer and locate the imaging unit (drum). The drum is the unit with the large, green cylinder and a handle that runs the length of the unit. Grab the handle and gently pull straight up. If you intend to reinstall the same imaging unit, cover it immediately after removal to protect it from being scratched. Light can also damage the photosensitive imaging unit.

  4. 4

Remove the new imaging unit from the box and unwrap it from the packaging. Remove the tape from the new unit.

  5. 5

Replace the imaging unit by aligning the coloured tabs on each end of the drum with the corresponding coloured slots on the printer frame. Slide it all the way down into the printer until you can’t push it down any further. Lay the handle down.

  6. 6

Reinstall the transfer belt by orienting the unit with the slots in the frame. Slide it down and to the right until it locks in place. Slide the lock levers to the right to secure the belt. Lower the top cover until it latches, and close the left door.

  7. 7

Reset the maintenance count to clear the “Replace Imaging Unit” message. The count can be cleared by pressing the “Menu” button until “Setup” shows up on the display. Press “Enter” and scroll until the display reads “Maintenance.” Press “Enter” again, then scroll until “Check Others” appears on the panel. Scroll until “Imaging Unit” reads on the display, press “Enter” once more, and scroll until the display says “Reset.” Press the “Enter” key to reset the Imaging Unit counter.
