How to convert square meters to square feet & inches

Updated February 21, 2017

Square meters and square feet are units of measurement that are most often used to measure an open space. The open space in the room of a home, for instance, could be measured in square feet or meters. If you want to convert from one to the other you can do so easily by using a simple conversion formula. Once you have the unit in square feet, you can simply convert it to square inches.

Use this conversion formula: One square meter is equal to 10.76 square feet. Multiply the given number of square meters by 10.76 to find the number of square feet. For example, if you have 50 square meters, the formula would be 50 x 10.76 = square feet.

Perform the math. Use a calculator to help you with the multiplication. In the example, 50 multiplied by 10.76 gives you 538 square feet.

Convert square feet to square inches. Because there are 12 inches in a foot, multiply the number of square feet by 12 to get square inches. In the example, 538 square feet multiplied by 12 gives you 6,456 square inches.
