  1. 1

Find a mobile phone forensic data kit. These are devices that you can plug your SIM (subscriber identity module) card into and to read the data on your phone. While it won't be able read your deleted messages if the memory slot has already been written over, it will be able to read the more recently deleted ones. As of 2010 these devices cost between £31-$149 and can be found at many on line spy and gadget stores including, Brickhouse Security, Spy Associates and at CSI Stick (see "Resources" section for link).

  2. 2

Install the software that came with your kit by inserting the CD-ROM into the disk and following the instructions on the screen.

  3. 3

Turn off your phone and remove the battery and take out the SIM card. This is the white plastic card located under the battery. Simply lift up the metal gate and slide it out.

  4. 4

Insert the SIM into the data device.

  5. 5

Turn your computer on and plug the USB cable from the data device into the port on your computer. Wait for a minute and your computer will detect a new hardware device. It will ask you for a driver. Click on "Have Disk" and navigate to your CD-ROM drive. Select the CD-ROM and click "Next." Your computer will automatically install the necessary drivers.

  6. 6

Go to your "Start" menu and find the software application that you installed for the forensic device. Launch the program and go to "File" and "Download Text Messages." A screen will appear with all available SMS messages, both deleted and undeleted. The deleted ones will be in red.

  7. 7

Undelete the messages by right-clicking on them and select "Undelete." You can now read any of the available messages.
