ZIP archive files are a type of compressed computer file that actually contains many files inside of it. If you want to send a large amount of files to the same location, you can put them all in a ZIP and only send one file as opposed to a bunch. You can also password protect ZIP archive files so that just anyone can't access the contents contained inside of an archive. To unlock a password protected ZIP file, you just need to input the password when you're prompted to by your computer.
- Skill level:
Right-click on the password protected ZIP archive file.
Click "Open." Your computer will now try to display the contents of the ZIP archive file on screen. Realising that the archive is password protected, before these contents display your computer will prompt you to enter the password.
Type the password for the ZIP archive file into the box on screen and click "OK." If you do not know the password, you will need to contact the individual who originally created the file and added the password in the first place. Once you have pressed "OK," the ZIP archive file will be unlocked and you can now access the files inside.
