Keeping memory boxes is a way to revisit occasions, events or periods of time from the past. Many people choose to scrapbook, keep photo albums or even write diaries to remember certain special moments. Memory boxes, though, allow you to store larger items along with photos, cards and letters that relate to them. Shoe boxes make wonderful memory boxes and using them can be a very "green" way to store your keepsakes.

Instructions

  1. 1

Choose a decorative wrapping paper or scrapbook paper that is large enough to cover your box and lid. Choose a design that relates to the items that you want to store in it. For example, if you are making a memory box for a new baby, choose baby wrapping paper, or baby themed scrapbook paper.

  2. 2

Lay your paper upside down on a flat surface and place your lid upside down on top of it. Use your scissors to cut the excess paper from around the lid, but leave enough around each side to cover the lip of the lid.

  3. 3

Draw a small "x" at each corner of the lid directly onto the paper and set the lid aside.

  4. 4

Make a diagonal cut from each corner of the paper to the "x" near it.

  5. 5

Place the lid back onto the paper and fold the edges of the paper over the lip of the box on each side. Tape them in place with clear tape on the inside of the lid.

  6. 6

Place the box onto the paper the same way you did with the lid, but place the box right-side up. Cut the excess paper from around the box with your scissors.

  7. 7

Fold two opposite sides up and over the edge of the box. Tape them in place on the inside of the box.

  8. 8

Fold the other ends in like you would with a gift. To do this, place your thumbs under the flap of paper and poke your index fingers into either side of the flap. Fold the paper up with your thumbs and push the sides inward with your index fingers. Tape the flap to the top inside edge of the box. Repeat the process on the remaining uncovered side.

  9. 9

Place your keepsakes inside of the box. Consider grouping all of your keepsakes into separate boxes. Create one box for each of your holidays, children or important events.

  10. 10

Place an adhesive blank label to the front or lid of your box. Write the year, occasion or contents of the box on the label with a permanent marker.
