How to Block Outgoing Calls on a Cell Phone
Sometimes you do not want people you call to see your identification. (Cell phone image by Elzbieta Sekowska from

For the sake of privacy, you may not want the people you call to know your cell phone number when you call them. For this reason, there are ways to block them from seeing your number on an outbound call, either permanently or for individual calls.

Skill level:

Other People Are Reading

  1. 1

Call your wireless provider. Talk to the customer service department.

  2. 2

Ask them to give you a "line block." This will keep all numbers except 800 and emergency service numbers from seeing your caller identification.

  3. 3

If you requested a line block, you can still choose to reveal your information for individual calls. Just dial *82 and then the phone number, and the block will be disabled for that call only.

  4. 4

If you do not want to enable the complete line block, you can still hide your information for individual calls. Dial *67 before the rest of the phone number when placing a specific call. This is useful if you only want to block certain people from seeing your identification.
