Some cling films are safe for use in the microwave to retain moisture in foods as they cook. Cling film, also called cling film, is a thin sheet of clear or coloured cellophane plastic. Cling films designed for microwave use are made slightly thicker to reduce the chance of melting onto the food or a dish. Cling film boxes have clear instructions from the manufacturers to indicate whether the cling film is safe for use in the microwave.
Fill a microwave-safe container with food, leaving at least an inch of empty space below the rim.
Tear off a sheet of microwave safe cling wrap that is at least 2 inches longer and wider than the rim of the food filled container.
Place the sheet of cling film over the container so that it is stretched tight over the rim and does not sag and touch the food.
Pinch along the rim of the container to secure the cling film everywhere except a one inch section in a corner.
Slide the container into the microwave and cook at 75 per cent power setting for approximately six minutes per pound.
Open the microwave door halfway through the cook time and peel the unsecured corner of the cling up and back to vent steam away from your hands and face.
Stir the food to evenly distribute the heat before quickly resealing the dish with cling film, leaving the unsealed inch in the back corner.
Cook the covered food in the microwave for the remaining half of the time.
Peel back the cling film from the unsecured corner to vent steam away from your hands and face.
Discard the used cling film or use it to cover another dish headed for the microwave.
Cling film that is not listed as microwave safe by the manufacturer may melt and become difficult to remove.
