How to Drain a Ford Gas Tank

Updated March 23, 2017

It may be necessary to drain the gas from your vehicle for several reasons, but the most common reason is so that you can repair some component of the vehicle without the hazard of gasoline. Although some vehicles do have an opening on the tank for draining purposes, the best way to drain the gas from a Ford gas tank is to siphon it out.

Park the Ford in an area where there are no flames that has good air flow and turn the motor off.

Position a gas container on the ground directly beneath the opening to the gas tank approximately 18 inches from the vehicle.

Insert the siphon into the fuel tank as if you were fuelling the vehicle. Place the other end of the siphon in the gas container and let all of the gas flow out of the vehicle.
