Kitchen cabinets look impressive with glass doors. Homeowners can replace the wood panels in their kitchen cabinet doors with glass, but that can be expensive. Plexiglass is an affordable and comparable option to glass. Knowing how to start will help.

  1. 1

Use a screwdriver to remove the kitchen cabinet doors from the kitchen cabinets. Use a piece of masking tape and a pencil to mark where the doors belong on the kitchen cabinets. This will help when it comes time to replace the doors.

  2. 2

Use an electric router to carefully route the lip of the cabinet that is holding in the centre panel. Once the wood panel is routed out it should look similar to a picture frame. Do not attempt to do this with a solid wood door. Keep the wood panel intact in case you decide to replace the Plexiglass with wood later.

  3. 3

Purchase the correct size of Plexiglass or take in a large sheet of Plexiglass to be cut. Most home improvement stores will cut the Plexiglass for you when you purchase it. Avid do-it-yourselfers also can purchase kits to cut the Plexiglass at home without cracking it.

  4. 4

Apply a small bead of silicone caulk to the inside edge of the cabinet door. Gently press the Plexiglass into place on top of the silicone caulk.

  5. 5

Screw plastic clips into place around the Plexiglass to hold it in place. Do this by first drilling a pilot hole where each screw will be. Then screw the plastic clips into place. The pilot hole is important so that you do not split the cabinet door as you screw in the clips.

  6. 6

Hang the cabinet doors on the kitchen cabinets.
