How to Remove Felt Tip Marker

Updated March 23, 2017

Felt tip markers, such as permanent markers, can be damaging to your walls and rugs. Thankfully, you can remove the marker stains with just one simple solution: Alcohol. Basic rubbing alcohol is a useful solution for a lot of household cleaning. Do not use it too often or too much because it can eventually harm the area you are cleaning. Rubbing alcohol should be used for on-the-spot, emergency cleaning situations.

Wet the hand towel with the rubbing alcohol. You do not have to completely soak the towel.

Rub the affected area with the towel, making contact between the alcohol and the marker stain. Rub the area intently, yet gently, in a circular motion.

Use a different hand towel to dab dry the area, or use paper towels. You can also let it air dry.

Alternatively to the rubbing alcohol, you can use antibacterial hand gel or nail polish remover.

Things You'll Need
