How to Make Bows with Raffia

Raffia bows are a great accent to gifts, crafts and scrapbook pages. They are easy to make and won't cost you much. Make your own rafia bows by following these instructions.

Arrange the raffia so that it is all the same size lengthwise. Cut and discard any excess. A small bow will use around 12 inches of raffia, while a large bow will need around 24 inches.

If tying the raffia onto a surface, such as a gift, use the gift to anchor the bow. If you're tying the bow to affix to something later, simply use a clean, dry surface to work on.

Tie a simple knot first, and then make two loops with the raffia. Holding the loops in either hand, cross them and tie to create a bow.

Tighten so that it is secure. You can change the size of your raffia bow by pulling on the loops of the bow and tightening. The looser the loops, the larger the bow will be. Trim the ends to be even.

Use the raffia in any number of projects. It can be a great accent to tie on gifts in lieu of ribbon. You may want to use it as an embellishment on a scrapbook page to give it a more natural feel. You can use it in home decor to hang projects such as picture frames and name plates.
