Non-Stop begonias are tuberous flowering perennials that bloom from late spring into autumn. Bred in Germany, this patented group of plants tolerates the heat better than other tuberous begonias and the flowers tend to last longer. Non-stops grow to 25 cm (10 inches) in height and will add a pop of colour to those areas of the garden that are sometimes in the shade.

    Plant the non-stop begonia tubers in individual pots filled with equal parts of perlite and peat moss, one month before the last frost in your area. Water the soil until it drains from the bottom of the pot and place them in a dark area that remains near 21.1 degrees C (70 degrees F) until the tubers sprout.

    Cover the sprout with a layer of moist peat moss and move the begonias into a brighter area, but out of direct sunlight. Move them outdoors, into their permanent location after all danger of frost has passed.

    Water the Non-stop begonia when the top 5 cm (2 inches) of soil is dry. Saturate the soil and then allow it to dry again before watering.

    Feed the begonia every other week during the growing season, starting two weeks after planting. Use a 10-10-10 formula, diluted to half the strength recommended on the package. Always water before fertilising.

    Prevent fungal diseases by providing the Non-stop begonia with plenty of air circulation. Remove any plants that are growing within a 30 cm (1 foot) radius of the plant.

    Store the begonia tuber for the winter by digging it up after the foliage dies back. Remove the soil by gently brushing it away and place the tuber in a sunny area. Allow it to sit for three days and then place it on a layer of moist sand in a sealed container.
