You can be at a disadvantage when playing against others online because the PlayStation 3 controller does not have rapid-firing capability. You can speed up your assaults and defeat countless enemies by installing an adjustable rapid fire module to your PS3 controller. Rapid fire modules are available from video gaming accessory stores and all work in a similar fashion by attaching to the wiring of the PS3 controller. You will need some skill with a soldering iron in order to install the rapid fire module. The PS3 controller's warranty will be voided, but no harm will come to your PS3 from doing this.

Instructions

  1. 1

Put some newspaper down on a table. Put the PS3 controller face down on the newspaper. Use the Phillips jeweller's screwdriver to remove the screws from the back of the grips, the back plate and the front plate of the PS3 controller. Use your finger to release the clip from the front plate.

  2. 2

Separate the back off of the front of the PS3 controller. Drill a small hole in the front at or about the corner of the left grip where it meets the centre curved surface.

  3. 3

Use the wire cutters to shorten the lengths of the red, blue and green wires on a rapid fire module, like the Mad Dog Rapid Fire module for the PS3, to around 4-5 inches. Use the wire strippers to remove the insulation from the ends of the red, blue and green wires.

  4. 4

Solder the red wire from the rapid fire module to the second contact from the right at the bottom left group of four contacts inside of the front of the PS3 controller.

  5. 5

Solder the green wire from the rapid fire module to the left contact at the top of the rim of the centre curve of the PS3 controller's front. Let the solder cool.

  6. 6

Attach the blue wire of the rapid fire module to the "RCOMMON" labelled contact at the right side of the PS3 controller's front.

  7. 7

Place the button from the rapid fire module into the hole in the front of the PS3 controller. Put the glue in the Hot glue gun. Apply hot glue around the hole to hold the button in position. Let the hot glue set.

  8. 8

Route the wires from the rapid fire module into the front of the PS3 controller. Place the rapid fire module into the front of the PS3 controller at the right side. Apply hot glue around the rapid fire module to hold it in place. Let the hot glue set.

  9. 9

Turn the small screw on the rapid fire module clockwise with the Phillips jeweller's screwdriver to adjust the rate of fire.

  10. 10

Reassemble the PS3 controller. Plug it into the PS3, go online and blast your enemies using the rapid fire capabilities of your PS3 controller.

Tips and warnings

  • You can open the PS3 controller up and adjust the screw again to change how the rapid fire capabilities operate.
  • Don't let other online gamers know you are using rapid fire, as they may refuse to play against you.
