How to reset TV remotes

Updated February 21, 2017

You can use electronic remote controls to control just about anything in your entertainment centre. However, if you recently purchased a newer television, you need to reset the TV remote so it can be used with the newer television. Resetting the television's remote control doesn't take long and often it isn't necessary, because when you program the remote for a new television, the old programming codes are removed automatically.

Remove the batteries from the remote control.

Hold down the "1" button on the TV remote control for at least one minute.

Insert the batteries back into the television remote and power on the television manually.

Hold the "TV" button on the remote, followed by "Code" (if the remote control has a "Code" button) until the LED light blinks on and stays on.

Type in the TV's program code to sync the television with the remote control. The program code is available in the user manual for your TV (or the remote control).

Press the "Power" button, and the TV turns off.

Things You'll Need
