How to open a password protected rar files
Protecting files in an RAR file is a quick way to ensure they remain secure. (computer image by Orlando Florin Rosu from Fotolia.com)

A .RAR file is a type of computer archive file. If you have a lot of different computer files that you need to transfer to the same location, instead of sending them all individually you can just add them all to a .RAR file and send one singular file. You can also password protect these archive files so that not just anyone will be able to access them. If you choose to password protect your .RAR file or have come across one with a password, you will need to enter that password before you can open it.

Instructions

  1. 1

Make sure WinRAR is installed on your computer . WinRAR is the program that allows you to work with and create your own .RAR archive files, and if it is not present on your machine then your computer will have no idea what to do with the .RAR file when you try to open it.

  2. 2

Double click on the password protected .RAR file you're working with.

  3. 3

Type the password that protects the .RAR file into the box that appears on screen.

  4. 4

Click the "OK" button. The password will be accepted by WinRAR and the contents of the .RAR archive file will open in a new WinRAR browser window.
