Remove the remote control's battery cover and insert two AA batteries. Replace the cover.
Point the remote toward the game console. Press any button; the entire keypad should light up. The Xbox 360 universal media remote is preconfigured by Microsoft for your convenience. Using infrared technology, your console will automatically recognise the remote.
Use the buttons on your remote for similar functions to those on your game controller. Many are self-explanatory. The Xbox Guide button, found at the top centre of the remote, turns the console on or off. When you are in a game or other Xbox menu, this button will also allow you to navigate the various menus and system settings. Although they cannot be used during game play, the Y, X, A and B buttons have the same functions on the remote as they do on your game controller; follow the button options shown on your screen.
Configuring the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote
Remove the remote control's battery cover and insert four AAA batteries. Replace the cover.
Insert the disc that came with the Logitech Harmony remote into your computer. Follow the prompts until the software is fully installed. A window will open.
Connect the Logitech remote to your computer with the USB cable. The LCD screen on the remote should read "USB Connected."
Click the "Devices" tab in the software window. Click "Add Device." A new window will appear with three drop-down menus.
Click on the "Device" drop-down menu. Select "Game Console," then "Game Console (With DVD)." Click on the "Manufacturer" drop-down menu and select "Microsoft." Move your cursor into the "Model" text field and type "Xbox 360." Click "Next." A new window will appear with your device's information.
Review your device information and verify that it is correct. Click "Okay." You will be returned to the Devices menu. In the upper right-hand corner, click "Update Remote." A window will appear when the software configuration is done. Disconnect the remote from the USB cable.
On your remote, press the "Devices" button on the top left. Select "Game Console" on the LCD screen. The Xbox 360 functions will appear, and this remote can now operate your console.
