How to fix an oversized screen on a computer

If the icons and windows on your computer screen seem oversized and barely fit or are too large to completely view on your monitor, you need to change your screen resolution settings. Changing the screen resolution to a higher setting will actually make the images on your monitor smaller. The manner in which you modify these settings depends on the operating system you use.

    Change Screen Settings in Windows XP

    Right click any blank area on your computer desktop. Select "Properties."

    Go to the "Settings" tab of the "Display Properties" dialogue box.

    Drag the slider beneath "Screen Resolution" to the right. The higher the resolution, the smaller your screen images will appear.

    Click "Apply" when you have selected a resolution setting.

    Look at your display. If you are happy with the screen size, click "Yes" on the "Monitor Resolution" box and then click "OK." If you want to change the resolution size again, click "No" and repeat steps three through five.
